On Saturday 25th November, I hosted my first Cost of Living Fair at Westcroft Leisure Centre. We were joined by some really amazing organisations who kindly gave their time to provide my constituents with the support and advice they were acquiring. Amazingly, Sutton Night Watch, the Met Police, Sutton Community Works, Sutton Women’s Centre, Age UK, British Gas, DWP, Christians Against Poverty and Thinking works were all able to attend. I was so glad to see a space where these brilliant organisations could all be in one place to discuss with my constituents any issues or concerns, they were/are having regarding the rising cost of living.
At the fair we had also set up a bring and take stall which was a great success! The aim of this stall was to allow local residents to come along with old reusable items and leave them at the stall for someone else to rehome. We had so many people leave items which was fantastic to see, and my team and I took the remaining items left to charity.
I also had a stall where constituents were able to come and speak to me, whether it was a quick hello and a catch up or whether it was about an issue they were having. It was great to catch up with so many local residents, so thank you for those who popped by!
I really hope that those who attended this event found it useful and felt supported by their local community. I plan on doing similar events in the future, where I contact charities and organisations to join me in supporting you with your every need. Of course, I want to support my constituents wherever you feel you would like some more advice and I am open to any suggestions of what type of fairs you would like me to arrange.
Finally, I want to say a big thank you to the organisations, my local residents and my team for making this fair a success and all coming together to support our wonderful community.
