The Government have put forward plans to protect care home, hospital and hospice visiting. Last week the Government announced that visits to see loved ones in care homes, hospitals and hospices will be better protected.
There are going to be changes to the law so that visits to loved ones are a fundamental standard of care, putting family visits on par with having access to food and drink. During the Covid 19 pandemic, laws around visiting hospitals and those in care significantly changed to help prevent the spread of covid. As these restrictions became relaxed, there were some cases where people were denied access to see loved ones due to ambiguity around rules. With the new plans, this should no longer be an issue.
