It is incredibly welcome news that the Government is already 84% of the way to delivering on its manifesto commitment to recruit an extra 20,000 police officers across England and Wales.
These national figures also include 3,217 extra police officers who have been recruited in the Metropolitan.
It is clear that we have some way yet to go in fully achieving the Government's commitment of 20,000 extra police officers. However, I will continue to press the authorities, in Government and the Met, to ensure that they're doing all they can to keep our streets safe and people can rest assured that if they report a crime, it'll be dealt with.
