Some incredibly exciting news…. Network Rail have agreed to do the works at the southbound platform at Hackbridge Station in the 2025/2026 funding round!
This is has been a long and hard run campaign that I have fought for since becoming the Member of Parliament for Carshalton and Wallington. Many of you have raised concerns with me over the years about the dangerous gap at Hackbridge station and I have fought tirelessly to get these works done in the near future and for the rail networks to understand the severity of this issue.
Network rail, Southern and ThamesLink rails had previously agreed to do the works but that wasn't going to take place for several years so I am extremely glad to see our hard campaigning has really paid off!
This project will consist of two elements:
First, as part of a planned line renewal along that stretch of track Network Rail will reduce the cant of the track that will decrease the stepping distance between the platform and the train.
Secondly, Network Rail are also planning a platform renewal that would take place at the same time as the track works that will remove the large platform gap on platform 2.
I look forward to giving you more updates on this, as and when I recieve them.
