To mark UK Parliament Week locally, I was delighted to join Paul Scully MP and Councillor Catherine Gray at Harris Academy in Sutton to talk about Parliament and life as an MP.
Harris Academy Sutton is a fantastic school and one that I know many students from Carshalton and Wallington attend. During the afternoon visit, I spoke to Year 10 about what they had learnt during their week of Parliament activities and the similarities between their roles as prefects, student representatives and future head pupils and the role of an MP. We also spoke about the positive impact an MP can have on their local communities during their time in Parliament and the importance of public service for both an MP and as a representative of Harris Academy.
We then took part in a fantastic and challenging Q&A from the Year 10 students and a tour of the school's premises. Thank you again to the students and teachers for their warm welcome!
