Tonight I joined local residents and Neil Garratt, the Conservative candidate for Croydon and Sutton at next year's Greater London Assembly elections, at a council meeting to discuss the 'Ban the BBQs in Beddington Park' campaign.
Recent weeks of good weather have seen local people having to put up with problems in Beddington Park linked to the BBQs, including litter, anti-social behaviour, dogs getting burns, the bushes being used as a toilet to name just a few.
That is why local people came together to start a petition and campaign to ban BBQs in the park, which achieved nearly 2500 signatures.
At tonight's meeting of the Beddington and Wallington Local Committee, the BBQ issue was discussed and the recommendation was made that the static BBQs would be removed and the ban on disposable BBQs would continue. This was good news for local people, but there are still questions about how to pay for enforcement, which the Council are suggesting to do by charging for parking at the park in some form.
The attached document below shows the options that the Council are considering for parking charges. Check them out and share your opinions by contacting [email protected].
The next stage will be the petition coming to the Council's Environment and Neighbourhood Committee in June where a decision will be made. Make sure you join the Facebook group and come along to the meeting in June, but in the meantime, have your say on the different options outlined in the attached document.
