Grateful to be able to bring up the new regulations on district heat networks as part of the debate on the Energy Bill.
It's heartening to see that the Government have listened to my many concerns and those from colleagues about how damaging the unregulated networks can be.
I've seen for myself the constant barrage of issues that local New Mill Quarter residents face. Whether it's the rolling black-outs, call outs from the London Fire Brigade, exorbitant uncapped energy costs, it's clear that regulation of district heat networks is way overdue.
As such, I welcome the Government’s measures in light of this which will provide a lot of reassurance not just to residents of New Mill Quarter, but to others living under a district heat network.
There is still much work to be done - the Government has shown it's listened to my concerns and issues over the New Mill Quarter.
Taking this further, I'll continue to press ahead with ensuring that the Government is working towards future-proofing networks - at the moment the New Mill Quarter should be powered by incineration, an incredibly haphazard process of waste management that only slightly ranks above landfill.
Enough is enough - it's time to end the unregulated quagmire of issues that are district heat networks.
