Laughing gas canisters and their quick spread across our communities have become a significant concern locally- from residents and myself alike. Alongside life-long health impacts and the associated anti-social behaviour, the empty canisters are blighting our local area, especially in parks and open spaces.
That's why I was glad to sit down with representatives from Resolv, the UK's substance abuse charity and the British Compressed Gases Association, as well as Viridor.
We discussed issues around canister misuse and the implications of unsafe disposal of canisters, including work being done to reduce the safety concerns and impact the canisters have on disposal facilities.
Whilst the Government has committed to consider a ban on the sale of nitrous oxide for recreational use, we must remain vigilant that under-the-counter sales and leftover stock will continue to pose a challenge to the community.
