It was a great pleasure to visit Carshalton Boys Sports College this morning on National Teachers’ Appreciation Day and officially open their fantastic LOVE&PRIDE mural at the school.
As a former student at Carshalton Boys, and as the first openly gay Member of Parliament for Carshalton and Wallington, I was really impressed with the work that has gone into creating the LOVE&PRIDE mural as part of the school’s celebrations to mark Pride Inside earlier this year.
Students and staff were asked “What does love feel like?” and received hundreds of responses which were used to create a lasting mural to celebrate all love. The mural itself was created by the school’s talented resident artist, Jack Tanner.
I also had the opportunity to speak with all the students and staff via a virtual assembly, and took questions from them around the life of an MP, the challenges and opportunities faced so far, and what the LOVE&PRIDE mural means to me.
I’m so impressed with everything that Carshalton Boys are doing, and I’m immensely proud to be an alumnus of the school. I look forward to visiting again in the future, and also visiting with our many other brilliant schools in the Borough.
