Today, the Prime Minister set out the Government's plans to end the scourge of anti-social behaviour.
Even before I was elected, I'd been campaigning on several issues around anti-social behaviour - both locally and nationally. Since then, I have been dealing with and taking up residents' concerns raised through emails, surgeries and social media.
Locally, this has included:
- Lobbying for better deterrents to anti-social vehicle use.
- Working with organisations and individuals to get fly-tipped rubbish removed and plans put in place to stop repeats.
- Coordinating with our police and safer neighbourhood teams using feedback received from residents to ensure a uniformed presence in the areas where it's needed most.
The plan is a big step in the right direction to ensure our streets and homes are safe, and people can enjoy themselves in peace without being troubled caused by a nuisance few.
This will be possible due to the broad and over-arching themes that the plan is centred upon, including:
- Introducing tough punishments for perpetrators
- Cracking down on illegal drugs
- Increasing police and uniformed office presence in anti-social behaviour hotspots
- Higher fines for litter, graffiti and fly-tipping
- Launching a new tool for the public to report anti-social behaviour.
