This morning I met with senior Sutton Police leadership to discuss the recent knife crime attack which has taken place. I am pleased to hear that an arrest has been made, and I want to thank the responding officers for their efforts in recent days.
I would also like to reassure residents that steps are being taken to make you feel safer and to reduce knife crime. I had it confirmed that there will be an increase in police presence in the area for the foreseeable future, as well as an increase in the amount of CCTV in the area.
There is a Metropolitan Police action plan, in which knife crime is being dealt with as a priority. I will be working very closely with the police and local authorities to help tackle anti-social behaviour.
I am currently organising with the police and local authorities a date for a community meeting with the aim of providing reassurance to the local residents.
I would encourage anyone with information to contact 101 or you can confidentially contact Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111. The police will provide any support needed to witnesses.
Finally, I understand the concerns you all share in light of recent events around knife crime and I will do everything I can to ensure my constituents feel safe in their homes and on the streets.
